Project Description
The Caltrans District 3 Headquarters was a Design-Build effort for the State of California with the Turner and AC Martin Partners team charged with this commission. The 230,000 gsf, 5-story office building features loft-like open offices with high ceilings and natural lighting for Caltrans administration, design and engineering studios.
The facility was designed to house 776 Caltrans employees and includes a 200-seat auditorium, public service counters, teleconferencing facilities, childcare center and a cafeteria with outdoor tables and canvas awnings. The structure was designed using a hybrid, precast concrete frame and exterior skin incorporating post-tensioned cables at the exterior frame.
Services Provided
MatriScope provided services related to earthwork observation, including providing supplemental geotechnical recommendations for Building Foundation, Building Over Excavation, Sidewalks/Parking Areas, and Basement Demolition, and building code compliance. They also provided special inspections and materials testing related to epoxy anchors, masonry, precast concrete, post-tensioned concrete, structural concrete, and structural steel.
